Naruto, having prepared his Spiraling Shuriken, attacks Kakuzu head-on, but is unable to land a hit. He is grabbed by Kakuzu's body threads and is just barely saved by the combined work of Kakashi and Yamato. Meanwhile, Shikamaru uses an explosive tag to fill in the hole containing Hidan's broken body, effectively rendering him dead. Naruto launches a second attack on Kakuzu, this time sending a shadow clone carrying a Spiraling Shuriken as a decoy. As Kakuzu destroys it, Naruto lands a direct hit with a second Spiraling Shuriken, shattering both of Kakuzu's replacement hearts.
